Ice-climbing at Sentinel Canyon

Sentinel Creek and Canyon on the flanks of Mount Elliot is only five minutes by car from Aurum Lodge. It is an ideal spot for all our guests who have never tried themselves at ice-climbing and would like to give it a go. (It is easier than you think).

A number of guides / outfitters in the Nordegg area are available to take you there and provide you with expert instruction.

The small creek and canyon are well hidden from the passers-by on the highway and hardly anyone would park their vehicle here and head up the creek, unless they knew it was there.

Yet, when you don your crampons and walk up the creek to the canyon after a fresh snowfall, you feel like Alice in Wonderland. The tall, narrow canyon walls and frozen stream are an experience not to be missed.
