The
number one activity for our guests who will go on short walks from
the lodge or tackle some of the more challenging day hikes in the
region. An excellent guide book is available on this area and many
others cover the trails in the parks.
Hiking near Aurum Lodge is possible almost year round as areas like
the Kootenay Plains have little snow cover in winter. If there is
too much snow, then snow-shoeing is a wonderful alternative (we
provide snow shoes for our guests). There are two easier hikes which
are popular with visitors who do not want to exert themselves. The
majority day hikes involve elevation gains of 600 to 800 meters
however (2,000 to 2,600 feet) and therefore do require a reasonable
fitness level and good, comfortable boots.
Many of the hikes are along ridges and creek beds with no visible
trails or trail markers.
