Calypso Orchid.
|
The
first flowers in spring are the prairie crocus and draba which,
depending on temperatures and snow, will appear end of March to
end of April. By mid May, over a dozen species can be found in the
vicinity of the lodge, including the pink Calypso Orchid. June and
July are the best months for flowers with showy species such as
paintbrush, wood lilies, brown eyed susan and others. There is a
great variation from year to year, depending on timing and quantity
of spring rains. By mid August, the numbers of species dwindles
and fall flowers are out in decreasing numbers until end of September.
